Form and surface
The portrait brings together a frontal torso and a turned head. The warm brass tone of the face and hair contrasts with the darker bronze tone of the coat and neckcloth. Modeled passages remain visible across the hair, features, and clothing, recording the artist’s work on the surface.
The profile and rear views show the tied hair, the depth of the head, and the treatment of the shoulders and drapery.

Portrait references
In developing the likeness, Petrides studied Jean-Antoine Houdon’s bust of Jefferson (1789), Rembrandt Peale’s portrait (1800), and Gilbert Stuart’s Edgehill portrait (1805/1821) and Medallion Portrait (1805). These four works are identified as direct references in the artist’s project documentation.
The sculpture brings those historical likenesses into Petrides’s contemporary figurative practice, with a turned head, frontal torso, and modeled coat and neckcloth.
